We must admit that the fashion and textile industry inherently is not the most sustainable. ‘Sustainable fashion brand’ is an oxymoron. The most sustainable thing to do would be to not make any new clothes. However, this is unrealistic. We love fashion and recognize its significance in our daily lives. Additionally, the textile sector is the fourth biggest in the world and millions of people rely on it to survive. We are striving every day at Kai to adopt more sustainable practices that minimize the environmental impact of our production and operational processes. We are constantly researching new fabrics and processes that are more responsible. We will never stop educating ourselves and striving to do better. We will also keep it real and honest, and we will never ‘greenwash’ you or use sustainability as a marketing strategy.

 

We avoid overproduction at all costs. We produce all items in limited quantities and restock only according to demand. Our fashion is slow. Our designs transcend trends, and we strive to create pieces that you will wear forever. Quality is our priority, and we are constantly improving. Our goal is for every piece that we sell to you, to last forever. When we order fabric for production, we use it all. And we do not send any stock to landfill.

 

We have recently begun producing with FSC certified viscose. We are in the process of switching to more sustainable fabric options where possible. 

 

We do not use placement print. By not using placement print, we save 40% of fabric which would otherwise be wasted. This means that every printed item within a collection has a different print pattern, and no two items are the same. We think that this adds to the uniqueness of our clothing!

 

We work with factories in Turkey, China, and India. Our CEO has personally visited some of these factories. We also work with a compliance company QIMA to audit every single one of our factories on an ongoing basis. QIMA provides comprehensive quality and compliance solutions to bring trust and visibility to the supply chain. They also run quality control checks on our collections in their respective factories before they are shipped to us.

 

Kai is intentionally crafted to make women feel like their most confident selves. Our sole purpose of existence is to use fashion as a conduit to encourage women to realise their power and reject societal limitations. For us, diversity is a necessity for life and not a checkbox. Women and people of all races are represented at all levels of our production- from our core UK team to our overseas manufacturing teams.
